Every San Franciscan deserves to live in a safe and secure neighborhood, and as mayor, I will work with our police and community leaders to improve neighborhood safety. I believe we need a police department that focuses on building relationships with every community and uses technology to prevent and investigate crime.
COMMUNITY POLICING
I believe that police foot patrols are one of the keys to strengthening the bonds between law enforcement and our communities. Foot patrols turn police officers into members of the community and promote open communication between neighborhood residents and law enforcement. I also supports increasing coordination between law enforcement and community and neighborhood watch groups.
USING TECHNOLOGY TO FIGHT CRIME
Technology has allowed for the development of crime-fighting initiatives like Compstat, the Bay Area Regional Crime Center, and the Shotspotters program. I support full adoption of these programs and will push the police department to find cutting-edge ways to combat and prevent crime and make San Francisco as safe as possible.
IMPROVED OVERSIGHT OF OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT
The recent scandals at our city’s crime lab make clear that we need to insist on improved oversight and management practices. As mayor, my quest for greater accountability in our city government will extend to every agency, and no department will be exempt.
