San Francisco is known around the world for its diversity, which is one of our city’s greatest strengths. I am proud of our city’s leadership on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues. As mayor, I will continue the fight for equality and justice for all San Franciscans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and I will ensure that our city provides services and support to LGBTQ communities in need.
MARRIAGE EQUALITY
I believe every couple should be able to marry, regardless of sexual orientation or gender. I support marriage equality and agree with the U.S. District Court’s ruling that Proposition 8 amounts to unconstitutional discrimination.
ENCOURAGING ADOPTION
Every loving couple or individual should be able to choose to start a family. I support programs such as Adoption SF, which has staff dedicated to reaching out to LGBTQ communities to facilitate adoptions.
SUPPORT FOR LGBTQ COMMUNITY SERVICES
Recently, San Francisco has seen LGBTQ-focused social and health service providers close their doors or consider shutting down because of rising costs and a lack of funding. As mayor, I will work with non-profits and city agencies to ensure that LGBTQ communities have the services they need and secure funding for community pillars like the LGBT Community Center and Lyon-Martin health clinic.
